Plagiarism and Intellectual Property Policy

This policy statement articulates LearnGxP’s policies regarding plagiarism and infringement of the intellectual property rights of third parties in the courses it produces. This policy also establishes responsibilities for avoiding plagiarism and intellectual property infringement.

Plagiarism can be defined as ‘citation without attribution’. That is the use of someone else’s
ideas and thoughts and passing them off as the writer’s and not attributing them to their originator. Plagiarism can occur when, without acknowledgement:

  • Text is copied verbatim
  • Text is copied but with minor inconsequential changes
  • Text is paraphrased but retaining the original ideas and structure
  • Phrases are copied

Plagiarism in LearnGxP’s courses has the potential to severely undermine the reputations of our courses, LearnGxP LLC as a provider of high quality training products, and of the individuals involved in the production of those courses. Intellectual property covers a broad range of rights such copyright, patents and registered trademarks. This policy is principally concerned with the infringement of copyright. Copyright is a legal right that grants the creator of an original work exclusive rights for its use and distribution. This prevents the use of the originator’s published work from being used without permission.

Copyright infringement can result in both civil and, in some cases, criminal liability for LearnGxP as a company, its officers and those involved in the production of courses containing infringing material. In addition, courses containing infringing material will often have to be withdrawn form sale until the infringing material has been removed and replaced with acceptable material.
