What is an Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR)?

Adverse Drug Reactions

In order to truly understand pharmacovigilance and how essential it is to public safety, we must also have a good understanding of Adverse Drug Reactions, or A.D.R.

An Adverse Drug Reaction is:

“A response to a drug which is noxious, unintended and which occurs at doses normally used for prophylaxis, diagnosis or therapy of disease, or for the modification of physiological function.”

Any unintended response to a drug, for example, lack of efficacy, overdose, or misuse is defined as an Adverse Drug Reaction.
