Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) is the part of quality assurance that ensures that products are produced and controlled consistently and reliably.

This consistency in product production and control is important and can only be achieved by having clear descriptions of the procedures in which the way the work will be done.

Addresses Risks

GMP specifically addresses risks that cannot be fully controlled by testing of the final product, such as cross-contamination and mix-ups.

These can best be controlled by having a properly managed risk based working practice that takes them into account. This means that equipment and facilities must be designed in such a way as to enable easy operation and maintenance.

It also means that the quality system must be designed with these risks in mind and set out to determine whether any errors have occurred.
