Document Control: Signatures

Document Control

Company Document Control procedures and/or product plans need to provide general guidance (if not otherwise specify) who approves items. To ensure consistency in the approval process, ensure the guidance is established.

Approval Matrix

Some companies have a matrix showing ROLES and approval requirements. It’s tempting to name names but this often leads to difficulties when someone is promoted or leaves the company. Focusing on roles minimizes impact when personnel change.

What the Signature Represents

It should be noted that signatures have meaning! The approver is attesting for the company that information is correct, accurate, complete, etc. The signers need to understand both what they are signing and what their signature represents.
