The Most Critical Aspect: Training

Training is a critical part of any good quality system, and often a point of non-compliance as maintaining good and up to date training records is extremely challenging.  A procedure needs to be established for identifying training needs to ensure personnel are adequately trained.

In addition, the types of training should be part of the process.  For example, OJT, or on-the job training, self-read, group training or external training/certifications may all be allowed. These all need to be defined in the organization’s processes.

Manager Responsibilities

Managers of each area should create a training matrix or a training plan, which lists the procedures by job title, in order to determine which procedures are required to be trained on and which are optional for each job title in their department.  The training plan may also include specific certifications or other requirements.

The plan becomes the basis for each employees training file, and must be reviewed periodically and updated accordingly.  The training plan should also address how new equipment and processes will be handled and implemented.
